Seift
Fan Linn.
Poster Design by Hollie Murphy.
Aodh has started a new job he doesn’t believe in. There will be no negative consequences for himself, his family, or the country.
Seift is a bi-lingual play about political grifting, the repurposing of language, and Irish identity. It’s about familial relationships, media narratives, and the concept of notions.
It’s about a language confined to the home and to spectacle; where what you mean isn’t important, as long as it looks good for optics. It’s about the inherent lie in “Chéad Míle Fáilte”, and the recognition of the conversations we as a country need to have as we hurtle further towards an ugly future.
As Aodh’s job mirrors a country with a collapsing image of itself, Seift seeks to ask when exactly are we going to do anything to change it?
Seift has had a workshop week and reading in Roscommon Arts Centre in November 2024, followed by a sharing in Riverbank Arts Centre in January 2025.
