Ag Samhlú Saoil Eile | Imagining an Other World
Siamsa Tíre, 2026 | Reawakening language and stories about the Otherworld to reimagine our own.
How does Irish language and myth about the Otherworld, and the role of nature within it, speak to us at a time of environmental crisis? This three-part workshop series for young people Scaoilte Theatre uses theatre and storytelling to awaken these words and stories and use them to imagine our own ‘other worlds,’ of living in tune with our ecosystems.
Ag Samhlú Saoil Eile is a bilingual programme facilitated by theatre artists Martha Cosgrove and Cian Ó Náraigh of Scaoilte Theatre, supported by Siamsa Tíre and the Lasta Festival. The project invites young people (16-24) with a curiosity for the Irish language and theatre to explore the natural spaces and species in Irish mythology of supernatural Otherworld through theatre. Participants are then invited to create their own stories of worlds in which we live with respect and wonder for ecosystems. These stories will be shared in a sound-based installation presented in Siamsa Tíre during the Lasta Festival.
All levels of familiarity with Irish and theatre are welcome. Attendance at all three workshops is encouraged. Workshops are free, but registration is required.
